Terrain Labs was established with a simple conviction: that landscape design matters. Not just aesthetically, but ecologically, socially, and culturally. A well-designed garden or public park changes how people feel every day.
We are a focused studio — small by choice — which allows us to give each project the full attention it deserves. Our work spans residential gardens, resort landscapes, commercial environments, and large ecological parks.
The thread connecting all of it is care: for the site, the client, the plants, and the people who will inhabit the space for decades to come.
Design Philosophy

Context First
Every project begins with the site — its soil, light, wind, water, and cultural memory. We don't impose a house aesthetic; we find what the place already wants to be.

Material Honesty
We prefer local materials used truthfully. Stone that looks like stone. Wood that weathers naturally. Plants that are suited to the climate, not forced to survive it.

Long-view Design
A good landscape improves with age. We design for the ten-year garden, not the photo-shoot moment. Slow-growing natives, considered structures, generous soil depth.

Ecological Integration
We treat every project as a contribution to the local ecosystem — planting for pollinators, managing water on-site, and working where possible to expand habitat.

Vijendranath Ravindren
Founder & Principal Landscape Architect
Vijendranath Ravindren is the Founder and Chief Landscape Architect of the Chennai-based Terrain Labs, a landscape design practice with a wide range of projects, from heritage landscapes in Karnataka to event spaces in Madhavaram, residential apartments, commercial offices and resorts.
With a collective professional experience and knowledge of over 17 years, gathered through work at globally acclaimed firms, his projects range from a single ground to hundreds of hectares across commercial, hospitality, institutional, residential, healthcare and heritage typologies. These projects span various climatic zones, from Tamil Nadu to Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
A postgraduate in Landscape from C.E.P.T., Ahmedabad, Vijendranath strongly believes in an approach to landscape design that engages with every natural element on site in the least intrusive way. He constantly strives to create memorable places where people can connect deeply with nature.
